Back From Florida

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

Well I’m back from Florida. Actually I’ve been back for several days now but I just haven’t had much to say. The trip was productive and pleasant. A nice drive down, a nice drive back, and some solid work done on the next album — nothing earthshaking. The next trip I take is going to be more for fun and adventure — I promise.

Other thoughts I’ve had bottled up:

Serenity is excellent, but not great. What keeps it from greatness you ask? Well, one thing I really liked about the FireFly TV show was that the plots were always “low-level”, that is the characters were always running around doing interesting things, but they weren’t out saving the world. They were the little guys and their individual actions didn’t send ripples throughout the galaxy. I really like that. I’m SO SICK of characters that are out saving the country/world/universe and I was a bit disappointed that Serenity chose that direction. “James Bond” syndrome aside, it is an excellent piece of work.

Tender Buttons by Broadcast is a genuinely excellent album. It may not have the strongest songwriting, but it’s fantastic and well-crafted atmospherics more than compensate. One of the best new albums I’ve heard in months.
