At the last minute Will decided he wanted to go home to West Virginia for his birthday. It was my first long weekend with the inlaws and I’m glad to say that except for some allergy problems, it all went smoothly. No big disasters or embarrassing blunders. I remembered never to touch or stand too close to Will, just smile and be the good eunuch that makes str8 people so comfortable. Okay, that sounds harsh. All in all his family were great and made a real effort to make me feel at home, but its still annoying for Will and I to have to sleep in separate rooms…
The homo-factor aside, I really enjoyed my stay. For the two days we were there we crawled around in a cave, hiked up Seneca Rocks, toured all of Will’s old haunts, and hung out with his folks.
The part of West Virginia where Will’s family lives is a beautiful place. Everywhere you turn there are grand sweeping vistas of rolling fields ringed by craggy green mountains. The sheer openness of the place is quite a change from the crowded urban existence to which I’m more accustom.
I’m sure we’ll go back soon. Will’s got some bigger caves we want to explore and he’s always eager to get out of the city. Who know’s, maybe I’ll get really adventurous and put my hand on his shoulder when some one’s looking. Gosh! Now that’d be some real adventure!
