Did I forget to mention the NY pix were here?
Went out to Hamburger Mary’s last night to visit with some of the rugby guys. Got to see Jimbo’s shiner, and drank a few too many brews (its sad how few too many is these days).
We will be seeing the Renegade guys again this Wednesday at the Green Lantern. They are auctioning off members to raise cash for the team. Hmm, wonder if we can get a houseboy at a good rate?
When I first came to DC the Green Lantern was one of my favorite watering holes. Far less queeny than Remmingtons or JRs, it offered a good blend of late-20s, early-30s guys and, of course, the ever popular “shirtless” night. On that night everyone was invited to shuck their tops and drink free for a few hours. I recall many a night of bare-chested drinking and all the mischief that ensued
The place was closed down by the city a few years ago under mysterious circumstances. Some claimed it was tax problems, others thought it was one of the city’s anti-decadence crackdowns. Whatever the cause, it was refurbished and reopened late last year. I have to say the place is better than ever. Better laid out, cleaner, and it even has large pictures of Alan Scott and Hal Jordan on the walls – a reference the old lantern never made.
The upstairs has been renamed the Tool Shed. I used to joke that I always wanted to open a gay bar called “The Tool Shed” with a deck out back just so I could look at some guy in the bar and say: Yeah, I’ve had him behind to tool shed!
.
OK, so it doesn’t sound that funny, but tell it on a warm summer night, when the bar is filled with half-naked men who’ve been drinking, and you’d be surprised how well it goes over…
