I am really looking forward to the X-Men Movie coming out this weekend. It looks as thought they have finally done a superhero film right. It will be fun to get a gang together and go see.
I’ve been an X-Men fan for years. When I was at summer camp as a kid I remember another boy named Larry giving me a copy of X-Men #137; The Fate of the Phoenix. I had read comic books before, but had always found them rather bland and hokey. The X-Men were so different. Mature, believable characters. Deep, multilayered plots that took months to unfold, and stunning beautiful artwork. I was hooked. That one book started me buying hoards comics until I left for college.
I still have my collection, all neatly boxed and stored away. It doesn’t get much use these days, and to be truthful I’ve been thinking of putting a lot of it up on EBay. Even if I end up selling off much of it I think I’ll have to hold on the a few of my favorites. Early X-Men, Machine Man, The Warlord.. and maybe a few others.
I’m not ready to grow up all the way just yet.
